Creative Process
Here’s what inspired me to create these tracks!
I began working on this EP back in November 2020. In fact, Birg was the first track that I started with, followed by Schiphol. Rainier was a track that was more recent, started in April 2021 and completed in July 2021 (with bajillion tweaks in between). For me the ideas for every track that I write always comes from experiences, or memories of those experiences.
Rainier is named after the famous peak in Washington (the place where I currently reside in the US). With this track I wanted to capture the grandeur views of this peak and emulate some of the natural sounds you'd hear in this region.
Birg is based on the famous summit in the Alps, Switzerland which I visited in 2019. With this track, I wanted to capture the sounds around the monumental peak, the spatial ambience and the feeling you get when you're at the top of the peak. (Fun fact: this summit is one stop away from Piz Gloria - the other famous summit where Stephan Bodzin played his set for Cercle - which is a true masterpiece, and also an inspiration for the vibe of this track.)
Schiphol named after the international airport in Amsterdam. I'm always inspired by airports - the sounds, the space and that feeling you get when you're in a foreign land. The idea for this song was planted in my head during a 11 hr layover at the Schiphol airport (also in 2019), where it was surprisingly almost empty and it was just me surrounded by the usual airport sounds and the shimmering lights out on the runway.
